A 1999 report<\/a>, published in an Italian journal, detailed the development of non-Hodgkin\u2019s lymphoma in a single patient with a prior history of asbestos exposure. Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which helps maintain fluid levels in the body. Health research has shown that asbestos exposure can be a risk factor for developing a number of cancers, including lymphoma.
