For decades, the United States Navy required the use of asbestos-containing materials on almost every ship constructed before the early 1980s.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For many decades, nearly every inch of naval vessels contained asbestos. Many Naval vets were exposed.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the Navy had doubts about asbestos\u2019s safety, the service believed that this so-called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asbestosclaims.law\/asbestos-blog\/asbestos-the-miracle-mineral\/\">miracle mineral<\/a>\u201d could help keep ships and sailors safe from fire.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We know today that no amount of asbestos can be considered safe: asbestos exposure has been associated with a variety of serious illnesses, up to and including cancer. Asbestos is inherently:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Resilient<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Strong<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Anti-corrosive<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Electricity resistant<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Heat resistant<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>People have sought out asbestos for its seemingly \u201cmiraculous\u201d qualities for thousands of years. However, asbestos production in the United States only began to peak in the early 1900s, as home builders, heavy industry, and manufacturers believed the substance could help meet the country\u2019s growing demand for cheap consumer products and inexpensive urban housing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Much of WWII-era asbestos manufacturing was directed toward naval use.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Asbestos was used in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asbestosclaims.law\/sources-of-asbestos-exposure\">all branches of the U.S. armed forces<\/a>. Unfortunately, asbestos\u2019s resiliency is what makes it so dangerous. relationship between tobacco use, asbestos exposure, and serious medical conditions such as a lung cancer and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asbestosclaims.law\/asbestos-symptoms-and-treatment\/asbestos-injuries\/malignant-injuries\/\">malignant pleural mesothelioma<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smoking could affect the body\u2019s immunity system<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>When asbestos fibers are inhaled, they can get trapped inside the lungs and its pleural lining, causing extensive scarring and substantial inflammation. Cigarette smoking can further compromise the body\u2019s natural ability to eradicate embedded asbestos fibers.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Damaging lung tissue<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Cigarette smoke and asbestos fibers can both scar lung tissue.
